Pursuit 2019: Champions
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. – Hebrews 12:1-2
The greek word for witness that is found in Hebrews 12:1 is Martus.
The definition, in an ethical sense, is referring to those who followed after Jesus’ example, have proved the strength and genuineness of their faith by undergoing a violent death. I think this list of people found in Hebrews 11 are a little more than witnesses… more like champions.
This year Pursuit wants to remember and celebrate the champions that have been apart of our church for the past 50 years and be filled with fresh vision and courage for what our church and community needs us to be for the next 50 years. May we all become Champions for God.
Pursuit is an all-ages conference created by Gateway Church with the goal of encouraging our entire church family to pursue a closer relationship with God.
